My name is Mr. Marjanki Ferrando Hadem and I am from Jowai, the headquarter of West Jaintia Hills District. My dad is a retired Police Inspector and my mom is running a cooperative society which deals in Herbal Medicines and Treatment. I complete my MBA from MLCU in 2018. After my studies I was not very sure if I wanted to get into a job or to setup my own business, however, along the way, I realized that there was a voice inside of me that kept on asking me questions, like why do we always have to go out of Jowai or the state to work, why are there very less employment opportunities here, why are our people only looking for jobs, particularly government jobs, and not thinking about setting up their own businesses. I have seen many of my friends struggling to get a decent 9-5 job but failed to get what they expected as there are barely any job opportunities around. Then I decided that I should listen to that voice and I should do something about it. Jowai is lacking in so many ways, indirectly, showing us that there are lots of enterprising opportunities here, yet very few are able to see and capture those opportunities, and sadly those few are not the locals, but it is the non-tribals who are able to see those opportunities, and hence they come and set up their businesses here. Then I finally made up my mind that I should do something of my own, I should capture those opportunities lying around unseen, and I should set up my own business so as to create employment opportunities and also to be an inspiration to others to do the same. In the year 2019, I started a business by the name “WM CONSULTANCY SERVICES”, to help entrepreneurs with GST filing, Income tax returns, project reports, Trademarks, company registrations and other financial services etc. I have also included insurance and investment products into my business. We have successfully delivered our services to more than 1000 customers and now I can proudly say that my business is also providing employment to 5 Youths. What drives this business and what sets us apart, is our customer-oriented approach and the after sales services that we provide our esteemed clients. We also take special care when serving customers coming from rural areas or someone with no educational background, we make sure that everyone understands the products and services properly. I and my team, we are always updating and upgrading ourselves to strive towards exponential growth and overall success of our business. Over the years, I have witnessed that people would simply throw away plastic bottles after usage, some would throw them out of moving cars, some on footpaths, market areas, roads, drains etc. the sight of all the littering would really bother me, then I thought why not create a solution, and use that endless waste material and create value out of it, hence the idea of recycling popped up in my mind. This idea would also create employment as well as solve a problem of pollution. Since then, I started doing some research on the idea. In the year 2020, I had applied for the CM’s E-Champion Challenge launched by the government of Meghalaya under the PRIME startup initiative. My business idea, for recycling plastic waste with special focus on use-and-throw bottles, was selected under the top 50 Startup and I was one of the incubatee under PRIME startup hub, Shillong, where we were trained, hand held and nurtured so that our ideas turn into a full-fledged self-sustainable business model. On the 9th August 2021, I had completed my incubation and graduated from the program, however, due to the on-going pandemic I was unable to run my recycling business, however, as soon as the situation allows, I would give the best of my time and effort into the project. In these few years of my entrepreneurial journey, I have discovered and learned many things about myself, I realized that I like searching for solutions to a problem, I always search for better ways of doing things with higher efficiency, I like teaching others on anything new that I learn.
